Summer Capital

Baguio City is widely known as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” owing to its high-altitude location. The city area is mostly hilly and medium to large pine trees can be seen everywhere. Aside from the tropical pine trees, mosses are dominant in all places. As such, the word “Baguio” was derived from the Ibaloi word “bag-iw” which means moss. Geographically, Baguio City is located in the northern part of Luzon Island in the Philippines and one can reach the place from Metro Manila via airconditioned buses for more or less 4 hours. Baguio City is among the top choices of tourists around the world for the best of Philippines vacation places.

Burnham Park

The Burnham Park was named after its designer, Daniel Hudson Burnham, an American architect. This was so because the Americans established Baguio as a hill station in 1900 and Burnham was the one tasked to plan for the beautification of the area. The main attraction of the park is the wide lagoon or lake where tourists rent boats and paddle around. The lake is also surrounded by lush and colorful flowers naturally growing in the area. In fact, there were 3,004 individual species of flowers can be found within the park as identified and recorded by the University of the Philippines Baguio. For being one of the places on earth that has the riches species of flora and fauna, Philippines is such a real place to be. Panagbenga Festival

Baguio City celebrates Panagbenga Festival annually during the month of February. It showcases the artistic creations of the people in Baguio by using the flowers in decorating their costumes and floats. Interestingly, gigantic floats of different characters are usually paraded and designed or clothed with flowers. Adding more attractions to the float parade are the performances of various groups through dancing with costumes adorned with colorful and fragrant flowers.

Climate of Baguio

The climate in Baguio is classified as subtropical highland which is almost the same as tropical monsoon climate. It has a mild climate with an average temperature of 7 degrees Celsius. The low temperatures can be experienced during the months of November to February. It has extraordinary amount of precipitation during the months of June to October; the reason why moss is abundant in the area. For some Asians who does not have cooler temperatures in their country; they often look for Philippines vacation places for being near and would entail a lesser cost for them.
